'Tri-A-PI' is a superior polyimide for high temperature polymer matrix composites. A basic concept of the polymer design was proposed by Yokota of JAXAASAS, and the first version polyimide 'Tri-A-PI-1' was developed in 1998. This polymer has been commercially provided in market. JAXA and their co-workers have conducted a joint program to develop carbon fiber reinforced composites with 'Tri-A-PI-1' since 2000. In the program, three kinds of prepregs, amide-acid wet, imide-oligomer dry, and imide-oligomer wet, were developed.In this study, carbon fiber / Tri-A-PI-1 composites were fabricated by routing imide-oligomer dry prepreg, and mechanical properties were evaluated. It was demonstrated that the Tri-A-PI-1 composites exhibits excellent compressive and tensile strengths up to 300 ℃, and the imide oligomer dry prepreg is easy to make a high quality composite laminate.
