Decision Support System of Complementary Breastfeeding Based on Ontology Modeling

Complementary breastfeeding should be given to infants in age 6-24 months because at this age babies begin vulnerable to malnutrition. In Indonesia, giving complementary breastfeeding in the first year of life affects 60% of the 10.9 million child deaths each year. Giving complementary breastfeeding, need to considerate infant age, the ingredient used, and malnutrition condition because they affect on the fulfillment of nutritional needs for the babies. This study proposes the development of a decision support system (DSS) for complementary breastfeeding recipe to meet the daily nutritional needs of infants according to their physical condition. The steps taken in this research are collecting data, integrating complementary breastfeeding and pediatric nutrition ontology model, validation by nutritionists and pediatricians, as well as the implementation and testing. This study successfully built a complementary breastfeeding recipe DSS which are concerning infant's age, nutritional needs, ingredient preferences, and malnutrition suffered. Test results show that the contained functions in the application of these recommendations had been as expected, based on testing by nutritionists and pediatricians. Evaluation by ten users (mothers of infants aged 6-24 months) shows the user satisfaction for the information presented by the applications to the average value for the entire state is 4.004 on a scale of 1 to 5.
