This study investigates a generating mechanism of nutrient trap orcoastal trapping phenomenon between pollutant loads and water qualityby the artificial coastal developments at the Yeongil Bay where locatedin the southeast coast of Korea. Consequently, the inflowing pollutantloads were transported to the landward by the high-density salinitywater volume on the bottom-layer. Therefore, it formed nutrient trap orcoastal trapping areas of pollutant loads. By this mechanism, it is clearthat the water volume with high-density nutrient trapping area exists onboth sides of the Pohang New-port. To improve water quality of thisbasin, the reduction of these nutrients loads should be the highestpriority.
