Anthracene derivatives containing a 9,9'-spiro-bifluorene skeleton were synthesized as emitting materials for blue organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). The introduction of the spiro-center into a defined low molecular structure results in improving the morphological stability. Multilayer organic EL devices using these fluorescent materials as an emitting layer produced blue emissions with a saturated chromaticity (CIE x, y = 0.13, 0.21) and luminance efficiency as high as 4.88 cd/A.
