Wide band configuration of square microstrip antenna using pair of rectangular slots is proposed. Modified square patch is obtained by combining half of square patch to that with semi-circular microstrip patch of the equivalent diameter as that of the length of square geometry. Systematic study to provide insight of the effects of pair of slots embedded in modified patch geometry is presented. The slots reduce frequency of TM11 mode of modified geometry, which combined, with TM10 mode, yields wider bandwidth of 275 MHz (27.6%). Further enhancement of bandwidth is obtained by embedding additional slot. It tunes modified TM02 mode of combined geometry to yield bandwidth of 361 MHz (35%). The realized bandwidth here is more than that obtained from rectangular and circular patch designs using pair of slots. Proposed antennas yields bore sight radiation pattern across the bandwidth with maximum gain of above 8 dBi.
