Abstract: Dynamic traffic origin-destination estimation hasreceived increasing attention in recent years due toits grate technological and economic advantages. Inthis paper, a Kalman filter model for estimating andupdating dynamic OD flows for beltway network ispresented. The uniqueness of the model is the use ofpath flows as state variables instead of OD flows, thistreatment avoids the likely biases inherent in varioustraffic assignment procedures. Preliminary testing ofthe model shows encouraging results, however, moreextensive testing is still necessary. Simulation outputis used in generating time dependent traffic mappingmatrix, additional studies need to be conducted to findout if this would be applicable to the scenario ofreal-world of considerable size. !8
