Abstract: This paper presents a new theoretical entropy formalism to stereo vision - an entropy view of stereopsis. At the heart of this formalism is the entropy consistency principle. It reflects the essential 'active' and 'dynamic' nature of binocular stereo vision process. Finally, an experimental stereo system based on mathematical morphology is proposed and is integrated into the entropy formalism presented in this paper.!16
