The four chilling tolerant varieties and three male sterile lines, which can survive in winter, were selected from crossbreeding of Dongxiang wild rice (DXWR) with commercial cultivars. Chilling - tolerant varieties of SW -1, SW -2, SW - 3 and SW- 4 were derived from a DXWR x cultivars 88 - 1 cross, while the male sterile lines SWS - 1A, SWS - 2A, and SWS - 3A were derived from a DXWR x cultivars 88 - 2 cross. Three physiological indexes related to cold tolera nce were measured. The results indicated these chilling tolerant varieties have strong chilling tolerant ability.
