Microwave Assisted Synthesis of Substituted Furans, Benzenes and Pyridines

Furan, substituted furans, oxazoles reacted with activated acetylenic dienophiles under microwave irradiation and provided substituted furans, while 1,3-cyclohexadienes formed substituted benzenes. The process involved Diels -Alder retro Diels Alder reactions with extrusion of acetylene or nitrile respectively. Furan and oxazoles reacted with activated olefinic dienophiles to form substituted benzene, and pyridine respectively, upon the cycloaddition and dehydration of the cycloadducts. The reactions were one pot, high yielding, within minutes of microwave irradiation.
