Traditionally, capital goods are preventively maintained in the industry, considering multiple safety factors based on construction data and practical knowledge. High losses of remaining lifetime of the replaced, service-relevant components are taken into account in order to avoid downtime. Increasing interests in availability-oriented business models are reasoning the need of practical predictive maintenance concepts for different capital goods. Instead of supervising the normal operation and detecting errors, sensors which suit for availability-oriented business models must capture the physical quantities which are linked to the product lifecycle. The following work presents a monitoring concept of potato harvesters in order to technically enable the introduction of availability-oriented business models in agriculture. an anisotropic magneto-resistive (AMR) sensor is chosen to detect the abrasion of the service-relevant drive belt. Since the environmental conditions of agricultural usage are significantly different to the typical AMR sensor application, a certain product development is required. The resulting requirements mainly refer to the housing. Furthermore the uniqueness of the sensor signal is not given and is a major challenge for the application. advanced algorithms are required to determine to remaining lifetime of the potato harvester. One approach will be to formulate an optimization problem. another approach shall be robust against manufacturer tolerances.
