Antimicrobial resistance is becoming of major global concern. One method of reducing the current decline is through better stewardship of existing antimicrobials. One major area of antimicrobial prescription is in treating respiratory tract infections, which needs an immediate point-of-care decision. Here, we have used breath analysis for this purpose and have tested this hypothesis at nine clinical sites across the UK. We have recruited more than 1,000 subjects and analysed their breath using a commercial G.A.S. BreathSpec analytical platform. Early results indicate there are some measureable difference, but further data processing is required to improve the classification.
