In this paper a novel window-generalized Gaussian window (GGW) was developed from generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD) and its spectral characteristics were explored. GGW has rectangular, Gaussian, Harming and Hamming window as special cases. Moreover, owing to the existence of the adjustable parameter α , it is of great flexibility changing from Gaussian window (GW) to rectangular window as α gets increased gradually from 2 to ∞ and therefore enjoys the advantages of both the two, that is, narrow and leptokurtic mainlobe and weak sidelobe respectively, which attributes to high resolution as well as favorable accuracy of amplitude estimation in spectrum analysis.
