PlaNet-a Framework for Planning of Logistics Structures and Production Plants in Competence-cell-based Networks

Autonomous, elementary units of production, co-operating in temporary networks, are viewed as organisational form of enterprise in the 21st century. A scientific approach is provided by networks based on customer-oriented, directly linked, smallest autonomous performance units called competence cells. A procedure model for such networks was developed to establish the different levels of cooperation. There are specific requirements concerning the management and planning of competence cells. Therefore the Planning Concept for Networks (PlaNet) was designed for the planning and design of logistics structures and production plants in competence-cell-based networks. PlaNet provides the means that enable the competence cells to solve their planning problems. The framework includes suitable procedures, methods (including data, actors, tools) and default components for planning and configuring logistics structures and production plants. In the centre of PlaNet is a Holistic Planning Method as a generic procedure. The Net Planning Assistant is a toolset which comprises software implementing the methods of PlaNet according to the demands on an information technology environment in non-hierarchical networks. It includes tools for participative planning. The tools of the Net Planning Assistant are connected through an integrative Production Data Base (PDB) which contains all the data relevant for the planning process.
