Measurement of diesel particulate size distribution - using fuels with and without a smoke-reducing additive

In response to concern over the number of fine particles emitted by diesel engines, a programme of work was undertaken to measure particle size distribution in diesel exhaust. Different diesel engine technologies were tested on a non-additised base fuel and fuel treated with smoke reducing organo metallic additive. Two different particle size measuring techniques were used, namely SMPS and ELPI.
