ON THE STANDARDIZATION OF HOLE SIZES FOR SELF-TAPPING SCREWS

In case of using self-tapping screws under optimum condition, the determination of hole sizes for self-tapping screws and tightening torque has a significant effect. In this report, the present state of standardization on the tightening of self-tapping screws in Japan is described, furthermore how to determine the hole sizes for self-tapping screws is explained. The tables on recommended hole sizes for self-tapping screws is made based on the above process, and the large scale cooperative experiments are performed for inspecting adequacy of the table. As a result, in a range of present experiments, much trouble cannot be found about their recommended hole sizes.
