Luminescent Properties of Aluminum Doped Zinc Oxide Nanofibers Prepared by Electrospinning

Polycrystalline nanofibers of aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) with a uniform diameter of 50nm have been prepared by electrospinning a homogeneous organic/inorganic solution, followed by calcination at 550°. Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) reflective spectrophotometer and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were performed at room temperature to determine the effect of dopant on the optical properties of ZnO. Compared with the undoped one, AZO nanofibers had a significant blueshift of~10nm within the ultraviolet region and depressed blue-green visible emission intensity. The extension of band gap in AZO nanofibers was also discussed.
