A multi-physics model of LIB pack system considering electrical configuration of cells (parallel/serial connections) and heat transfer by convective cooling flow is developed to evaluate effects of electrochemical and thermal differences between cells on life of the pack. Based on the multi-scale multi dimension(MSMD) model framework, a pack domain is defined to solve the imbalances between cells. A LIB pack with 32 cells is simulated and the model results show coupled phenomena between temperature difference and electrochemical imbalance resulting in fast degradation.
