In this paper we discuss some of the issues that arise in long-term deployments of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) and their interactions with docking stations. Our solutions follow, in which we describe the software developments in the Odyssey II class AUV effort that address these issues. We provide supporting data from actual field experiments, including the 1998 R/V Knorr expedition to the Labrador Sea.
