The authors are searching for new ways of using CADsystemsin the engineering design process. This contentsamong others the creation as well as the refreshing andcontinued handling of computer-based, three-dimensionalproduct models to be built as prototypes on the department'sRapid Prototyping machine [1, 2, 3].In spite of the many advantages of the C-technologies, onseveral areas a deficit in its dissemination and effective usagestill is noticed.The following paper will give an overview on how theparametrical, feature based 3D-CAD-modeler may support theengineering design process. It is described, which functionalitythe parametric functions of these modelers are offering to theuser and how the work with parametrical CAD-systems isstructured. Advises are given for a more competitiveimplementation and time saving work with these systems.
