A Comparative Study of Error-Compensating Phase-Shifting Algorithms

In this paper, we presented the frequency spectra of filter functions for six error-compensating phase-shifting algorithms and compared the sensitivity of these algorithms to linear phase-shift miscalibration and nonlinear phase-shift error with a fringe pattern in a sinusoidal waveform and in waveform having a second-harmonic component. When a fringe pattern is sinusoidal, it was found that the de Groot 7-sample algorithm is the least sensitive to linear phase-shift miscalibration and the Schmit 6A-sample algorithm is the least sensitive to nonlinear phase-shift error of the six algorithms considered. When a fringe pattern has a second-harmonic component (s_2/s_1=0.3), Surrel 6-sample algorithm is the least sensitive to linear phase-shift miscalibration and nonlinear phase-shift error of the six algorithms considered .
