Digital video editing, due to the several advantages enjoyed over its traditional analog counterpart, is beingrnused by an increasing number of post-production personnel in the flm/TV industry. Digital video editing isrnprimarily done either on raw uncompressed video, or on video that has been compressed using only intra-framerncompression schemes. We describe a video editing system architecture where editing may be done directlyrnon the frames in the digital disk recorder (DDR), and playback from the DDR may be viewed at the user'srnworkstation. User workstations are networked to the common DDR using a high-bandwidth network. A tapernlibrary is used as the ou000b-line storage medium. Multiple users could edit and preview the video clips ou000b thernDDR right at their workstations and at the same time. Since disk resources are being shared by several users,rnthe Quality of Service (QoS) that each user receives needs to be investigated. We develop a queueing modelrnthat investigates the average waiting time of diu000berent user requests. Numerical results are provided and theirrnuse in admission control is illustrated.
