Recent trends in gas pipeline incidents: a report by the European gas pipeline incidents data group

The European Gas pipeline incident data Group gathers data on the unintentional release of gas in their pipeline transmission systems. The EGIG data presents the best available failure statistics for Western Europe gas transmission pipelines, and so is able to demonstrate their high level of safety. The aper presents informatio on the development of the databased and accumulated frequencies, including the total incident frequency over the 1970 to 1997 period, the experience over the last five years, and the main contributing causes of failure.
