Without any doubt, new technologies with an even greater impact on oil refining, will appear in the next decennium as research and creativity are intense as never before. A typical example of a technology under development with very promising and above all exiting future in oil refining, is the ultra- and microfiltration membrane technology. When industrially proven, such technologies will create completely new opportunities for physical refining of a whole range of oils. Another intruiging challenge for future oil processors, are the developments in nonedible oils and fats apllication. The high prices for mineral oils and renewability of vegetable oil sources, have created again large interests in eg; biofuel production and other oleochemical applications of fatty acid derivatives. No doubt that the oil processing technologies will further advance in the different directions. But in all cases, cost efficiency is only important when a consistent high quality is guaranteed. At the end only efficient quality pays.
