In recent years, both ubiquitous computing applications and component-based software development have evolved. Ubiquitous computing applications focus on integrating computer and communications with the environment. It makes the computing and communication transparent to the users. The devices of ubiquitous computing environments such as handheld and wearable computers etc. use ad hoc short range wireless network. Component-based software development has the benefits of reuse of code which relates directly to a reduction in cost, support and man power over traditional software development. This paper describes an approach to developing ubiquitous computing applications using component based software development. This allows ubiquitous computing to reap the theoretical benefits of using software components, specifically, reusability and a shortened development process.
