Abstract: Experimental evidence is found for different types of complexes that are formed when phenol and resorcinol associate with SmMe$-4$/ and Ph$-2$/RE basket type molecules. The symmetrical OH band of the complexes formed between resorcinol and SmMe$-4$/ is indicative for a bifurcated hydrogen bonded complex while the composed OH band in the other phenol, resorcinol complexes points to the presence of n and $pi type OH$DOT$DOT$DOT@O $EQ C associates for SmMe$-4$/ and possibly additional OH$DOT$DOT$DOT@ether and OH$DOT$DOT$DOT@phenyl associates for Ph$-2$/RE. !4
