EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF STAMPING DEFECTS: PIMPLES

Surface quality of pressed panels being an important issue in the automotive industry, the occurrence of pimples was studied experimentally. Tests were developed in order to study influences of material properties and dirt particle size on the visibility of pimples and the final pimple height. Trends and absolute values are now being used for finite element modelling of the formation of pimples.
