A Hybrid Decomposition/Composition Approach for Building Object-Oriented Business Components

Currently, most component developments are based on the object-oriented approach emphasizing the individual structure of objects in the early stage of the development life cycle. Then, the linkages of individual objects are constructed to represent the business requirements or to represent the system behaviors. Such an approach is not the natural way to realize the potential of business models to provide atomic units to handle the constant changes in business requirements of global competition. The paper proposes a business process-based method for modeling business components, focusing on the capture of both processes and associated data in the early phase. In the method, firstly, the basic concepts of the modeling method are introduced and defined in terms of set theory to model business objects formally. Secondly, business activities and associated business objects, as the primary units of the business components, are systematically identified.
