The last thirty years has seen a marked increase in the number of non-traditional students on campus These students are older, mature, and are generally not full-time students. While they may be better motivated, their math and study skills may have eroded and the amount of time that they can be on campus is limited. This paper discusses strategies for making these students productive in a software engineering curriculum. These include the efficient use of class time, active learning, electronic office hours, software licensing, and proper management of group projects.
