Distribution of enteropathogenic factors in isolates of vibrio mimicus

Vibrio mimicus is a diarrhogenic bacterium having ismilar biological properties to V. cholerae and produces various enteropathogenic factors including cholera toxin-like enterotoxin (CT-like toxin), zonula occludens toxin (ZOT), accessory cholera enterotoxin (ACE) and heat-stable enterotoxin (Vm-sT). In addition to these factors, some hemolysins are also thought to be enterotoxic factor of V. mimicus. These hemolysins are V. mimicus hemolysin (VMH) which is closely related to El Tor hemolysin produced by V.cholerae O1 El Tor and Vm-TDH which is related to TDh (thermostable direct hemolysin) of V.parahaemolyticus. We surveyed distribution of these factors in 46 and 63 strains of clinical and environmetnal isolates of this species, respectively, by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
