CAST HOUSE REFRACTORIES - SELECTION AND EVALUATION

Refractory applications in the cast house are many and varied. Each of these applications requires different physical and chemical properties such as thermal conductivity, molten metal resistance, mechanical strength etc. There are many refractory materials of different compositions and structure available on the market this makes the choice of refractory for a specific application sometimes difficult. Standard refractory testing methods provide a means of evaluating materials for furnace design and construction, but not. for service. The various, currently in-house, test methods available and their applications are reviewed.
