The general aim of this paper is to illustrate the extent of Terraforming and the driving factors that would actually make us undertake a project of such magnitude. The word Terraforming means changing an environment until it becomes habitable for life forms from Earth. The concept of Terraforming is interdisciplinary and concerns political and social aspects as well as technological.rnAs many of us live in a world where we do not have to consider basic needs, such as breathable air, warmth, food and a territory to exist on, it might be hard to argue in favor for leaving our 'carefree' lives to barely endure as settlers on another planet. Just to survive is no longer humans' most important issue but to live in a world where social, political and economical forces drives our needs rather than the search for food and shelter. The topic of discussion is mainly but not only the technological difficulties starting an Earth colony on another planet, but also how to motivate people to leave Tellus and move to a settlement somewhere else.rnPerhaps the most important question is the technical feasibility of Terraforming. There are numerous physical quantities that must be held within certain boundaries to meet the requirement of Earth life forms, which more or less need to be altered on a new celestial body. Human life can exist within a very narrow spectrum of these quantities and even though we might alter DNA to our favor, we still need to breathe a composition of molecules, to keep our temperature stable and consume nutrients. Substantial amounts of water must be available, preferably in liquid form, and the territory in which we can exist, must not be small. A hot subject in this field is putting colonies on the moon and on our neighbouring planet Mars, something that has generated several surveys and popular science articles. This paper is more aimed towards a general way of Terraforming and will not include detailed analyses of technological solutions. Discussions are more examples of approach and to spare the reader from more Mars gibberish the sister planet Venus and Jupiter's moon Europa stands as examples of planetary engineering.rnA small section is devoted to mainly hypothetical assumptions about how Earth society will change during the years to come. Inspired by the famous Danish future scientist Tor N0rre Tranders and using material from various future scenario researchers this section offers interesting speculations about human development during the generations to come and a reason why terraforming technology might in the end be the one thing that guarantees the survival of human life.rnAnd as part of the course contents a general description of Astrobiology is included.
