Air conditioning of buildings is considered to be one of the main consumers of energy in most countries.rnWith today’s increase in oil prices and the significant growth in energy demand, energy savings in heatingrnand cooling of buildings is becoming an important area to address in order to reduce energy consumption.rnThis paper reports on the application of infrared thermography to monitor buildings insulation measures andrnthe thermal efficiency of buildings based on data collected from buildings built in different decades in thernUK. Infrared thermography is used to examine heat losses in the tested buildings in winter. The results andrncase studies presented in this paper show how the use of infrared thermography can be an effective tool tornmonitor the thermal efficiency of buildings and indicate any issues that should be addressed to improvernperformance. The paper also addresses a quantitative approach to calculate expected savings in using internalrninsulation of solid walls in old buildings.
