Water is proposed as a substitute for CFCs and HCFCs. In this paper, theoretical analysis is done with the process in the flash vaporizer, a key component in the refrigeration/thermal storage system using water as refrigerant. Numerical calculation is carried out to simulate the formation process of binary ice. Some factors, such as initial velocity, droplet size and surrounding vapor pressure, are analyzed of their impacts on the ice-producing fraction. To raise the ice percentage of the droplet, the most efficient way is to decrease the size of the droplet.
