A condenser cools a high temperature, high pressure refrigerant compressed by a compressor. An evaporator evaporates the low temperature, low pressure refrigerant decompressed by a decompressor. An electronic control unit (ECU) determines the amount of refrigerant remaining in a refrigeration circuit, by comparing parameters related to actual and theoretical heat dissipation in the condenser, respectively. An Independent claim is included for refrigerant shortage detecting method.
