Plant growth regulators are important chemicals for modern agricultural practices in greenhouse production influencing plant growth and development (Rademacher, 1991). Several studies, however, have shown that the combination of various micrometeorological parameters influenced the uptake and translocation of plant growth regulators such as paclobutrazol, a growth regulator used in the production of compact and marketable ornamental plants (Criley, 2000). More specifically, photosynthetic photon flux was found to affect the response of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis (Kamoutsis et al., 1999) and Lantana camara subsp. camara L. (Matsoukis et al., 2001) to paclobutrazol applications. It was also found that photosynthetic photon flux in combination with paclobutrazol concentrations increased the ornamental value of Dendrobium cruentum Rchb. F. (Kititrakunyanum et al., 1999). In addition, day and night temperature in combination with the applications of paclobutrazol affected the growth of Sa/via sp. cv. Hot Jazz plug seedlings (KiCheol et al., 1998). The purpose of the present study is to present and evaluate micrometeorological and biometrical data of gardenia plants under different solar radiation regimes in greenhouse conditions.
