Texture Engineering of Lead-containing Perovskite-type Ceramics by RTGG Method

Three kinds of textured lead-containing perovskite-type ceramics were fabricated by the "Reactive Templated Grain Growth" (RTGG) method. Plate-like Bi_4Ti_3O_(12), Sr_3Ti_2O_7 and Sr_2Nb_2O_7 particles synthesized in fused salts were used as reactive templates for piezoelectric (Pb,Bi)(Ni,Ti)O_3 (PBNT), (Pb,Sr)(Zr,Ti)O_3 (PSZT) and (Pb,Sr)(Zr,Ti)O_3-Pb(Ni,Nb)O_3 (PSZT-PNN), respectively. For each composition, template and the other supplementary reactants were mixed and then tape-cast to make a green tape with uniaxially oriented template particles. After lamination, tapes were dewaxed and then sintered. All the sintered specimens were in a single-phase perovskite-type structure as designed. PBNT and PSZT ceramics exhibited a preferred {100} orientation, whereas PSZT-PNN ceramics exhibited a preferred {110} orientation. The Lotgering's degree of orientation for PBNT, PSZT and PSZT-PNN were 0.5, 0.1 and 0.58, respectively.
