Benefits of Crowdsourcing and its Growth in the Education Sector

Crowdsourcing is concerned about completion of tasks or acquiring of knowledge from a crowd of people through an open call. The rapid growth of innovative internet-based information and communication technologies create a new field of opportunities for organizations to reach their goals and one of the alternatives is crowdsourcing. The main aim of the study is to evaluate the extent to which crowdsourcing has been researched on in general and in the education sector between 2010 and 2015. The paper also looked at the benefits accrued through the use of crowdsourcing and the challenges encountered. The results showed that there has been an increase in research on crowdsourcing in general. Crowdsourcing in education has very little research articles found as compared to crowdsourcing in general. The benefits of crowdsourcing show that research will continue in this area to overcome the challenges encountered in the usage of crowdsourcing.
