The use of simulation in the design and analysis of large variablespeed drives

There can be little doubt that the role of simulation in thendesign and analysis of variable speed drives is becoming increasinglynimportant. A number of factors influence the choice of simulation toolnand the approach adopted. Some of the important lessons learnt regardingnthe use of simulation and design tools are highlighted with reference tonthree practical applications. The paper concludes with a comparison ofnthe major simulation packages used within the Power Electronics Divisionnof Cegelec Projects Ltd. and draws conclusions on the suitability of thentools for the various jobs
