Intensive quenching is a quenching process which produces maximum surface compressive stresses. Various intensive quenching processes have been developed by different industries in the Former Soviet Union (FSU) which have resulted in a dramatic reduction in cracking relative to conventional processes. In addition to providing a selective overview of published examples of intensive quenching in the automotive and related industries, a brief description of intensive quenching metallurgy will also be provided here.
