Environmental Policy Targets in the Traffic Sector Applied to the Example of Fuel Cell Propulsion

Germany’s Federal Environmental Agency, or Umweltbundesamt (UBA), has carried out a costbenefitrnanalysis of fuel cell technology to establish what advantages and drawbacks it offers comparedrnwith other propulsion systems on current evidence1. Computations to date indicate that it will be considerablyrnless expensive to cut emissions and conserve resources in the foreseeable future by focusingrnon Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs, or EURO IV standard) with optimized fuel consumptionrnthan by pressing ahead with fuel cell vehicles.
