Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are mostly large and complex, and evaluating theirrnfunctions in experiments using real vehicles is very difficult and unpractical. Trafficrnsimulators are, from this viewpoint, very important and useful. Toshiba has been developingrna microscopic traffic simulator based on a molecular dynamics simulation method for use inrnthe R&D of large traffic systems. Microscopic simulators, capable of simulating the behaviorrnof each vehicle, are generally considered to realistically and naturally reproduce thernoccurrence of congestion. This study here presents simulation results of traffic congestionrnoccurring at a junction on a wide-area highway network. Quantitative comparison withrnsensor data was also conducted and a good agreement was achieved. Our microscopic trafficrnmodel, road network model, optimization parameters and discussion will be presented.
