Economic efficiency of Free and Open Source Software in the Public Sector

摘要

The economic aspects of the free and open source software (FOSS) are widely discussed. Especially for governments, FOSS comes with a lot of possible advantages and disadvantages. The objective of this article is to evaluate the main factors, which are influencing the economic value of FOSS in the public sector of developing countries. As a concrete case, the governmental domain of the countries of Chile is chosen. To achieve a general view on the entire sector, especially strategic objectives are taken into consideration for an economic efficiency evaluation.
