The Bullwhip Effect and the Information System for a Plywood Supply Chain

The information system within a company must be designed with great care in order to meet the need for information of the decision makers. It needs to give the right information in the right form in the right time. Fighting supply chain inefficiencies like the Bullwhip effect can be hard enough with all necessary data at hand, and close to impossible without the essential data. In this article, we will present a project, were the Bullwhip effect is attempted to be decreased with an improved information system in a specific forest industry application: a plywood supply chain. In the data from the case company it was clear that the Bullwhip effect caused additional inventory. Therefore, a proposition of an improved supply chain policy with accompanying information systems solution was a desired output from the research project described in this article.
