The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for obtaining a 3D tensor-based image using a variable focus method. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a 3D tensor-based image acquisition method of a variable focus method includes: (a) acquiring an image sequence of a subject; (b) calculating 3D (3-dimension) tensor-based surface information for the image sequence; (c) determining a focus value using the 3D tensor-based surface information; and (d) displaying a 3D image of the subject based on the focus value.
