The present invention involves a method and a device for autonomously driving a motorised land vehicle, called ego vehicle, by adaptive cruise-control based on an acceleration setpoint. The method comprises a step (201) of determining an acceleration of a target vehicle, a step (202) of computing an indicator for the target vehicle configured to characterise a probability of the existence of the target vehicle, a step (203) of determining a maximum acceleration setpoint based on the indicator and configured to limit the setpoint acceleration, and a step (204) of determining cruise-control based on the maximum setpoint acceleration and the setpoint acceleration.
