The invention relates to a method and a system for estimating properties of a vacuum residue issued from crude oils that can be used for homologating this crude oil, in particular for paving bitumen application. In particular, the method of the invention allows estimation of properties useful for characterization of paving bitumen from properties which are usually not used for characterizing paving bitumen.;The method and the system of the invention can be integrated respectively in a method and a system for homologating a crude oil, in particular for paving bitumen application.
