The vacuum residues have atmospheric points higher than 525° C and operationally are classified as the non-distillable fraction of petroleum under vacuum distillation conditions . The nature of the vacuum residue depend on the crude source and can achieve performance trends above 45% by volume . For the purpose to take full advantage of these loads in the new refining schemes, it has been necessary to develop new tools for the study of the composition and characterization of fractions of vacuum residues. As fractionating refining scheme, different authors have developed and performed the technique of supercritical fluid extraction in order to get a deep separation of heavy hydrocarbons.
