Bonding of AL-SI coated press hardened steel using flash butt welding

A process for joining steel sheets includes providing a steel sheet, and bonding the steel sheet to another material. The steel sheet comprises at least one surface having an Al-Si coating. The step of bonding the steel sheet to another material is performed while the steel sheet is in a coated state. Bonding is performed using a forging process.
