摘要

The effect of the voltage phase of the welding power source at the start of the upset-travel on the quality of joint interface was investigated in an attempt to determine factors affecting the quality of flash-butt welded joints. In addition, the relationship between flashing and the quality of joint interface was studied using a new evaluating function based on the welding current applied. It was made clear as a result that the voltage phase at the start of the upset-travel had a great effect or the quality of weld joint and that the highest quality of weld joint was obtained in the vicinity of 90 degrees of voltage phase. It was also revealed the evaluating function provided an important indicator of the quality of joint interface and could be used as a control parameter in determining the timing of the start of the upset-travel.
