An inhomogeneous procatalyst includes a chlorinated agent having a titanium species, magnesium chloride components, and a (CL) x (R1) 3-x, where a is aluminum or boron, R1 is (C1-C30) hydrocarbyl, and X is 1, 2, or 3.The magnesium chloride component may be annealed at least 100 minutes at temperatures above 100 C before or after introducing the chlorination agent and titanium species into the heterogeneous procatalyst.Heterogeneous procatalysts with heat-treated magnesium chloride exhibit improved average molecular weight capability.A process for generating an inhomogeneous procatalyst and a process for producing an ethylene based polymer utilizing heterogeneous procatalysts are also disclosed.No selection
